rescued elephants
from cruel tourism
Since its creation, Baan Mama has given a fresh start to 8 elephants. Today, only two still live freely in our sanctuary. The other six had to be redirected due to insufficient funds to meet their needs.

no exploitation
All our residents – elephants, dogs, cats, pigs and goats – are survivors of human mistreatment. They live freely in a safe and loving environment, without being exploited. Each one deserves dignity and a second chance.

From suffering to freedom
The first elephant welcomed at Baan Mama in December 2018, Tao bore the scars of a difficult life. Emaciated, distrustful and traumatised by years spent in tourist camps, she even refused to bathe. With patience and gentleness, our team restored her confidence.

A second chance restored
Arriving at the sanctuary in May 2022, Punsap bore the marks of an exhausting life. Emaciated and weakened by months in a bankrupt tourist centre, she gradually regained her energy thanks to an adapted diet and constant care.

The caring soul of the sanctuary
Mama is more than a name — she is the spirit of BaanMama incarnate. As founder and passionate cook, Brigitte, known as "Mama", created far more than a sanctuary for tired and sick elephants: she built a home. Here, every meal is prepared with love, in an atmosphere where cooking becomes a moment of warm, authentic, family sharing.
